James Marsh dazzling, documentary invigorating WIRE man in the history of a truly inspirational figure. In the early 1970s, a fiery young Frenchman named Philippe Petit wanted to shake the world. When he saw the World Trade Center being built in New York City, found his mission. Petit is a high-wire Walker, and his goal was to create a wire between two towers and give the world a spectacle that never could have expected. As often happens with these efforts, the high-wire walking is the easiest part of the plan. For nearly seven years, Petit worked on the project, recruitment of staff that supported him every step of the way. Finally, after eight months in New York, the day came when Petit and his buddies jumped into action. This was not easy

They had to find a way to sneak past security and make their way to the top of the towers with heavy equipment, at which point they had to battle the elements to install the wire. After many close scares, the time came for Petit to realize his dream--and the rest, as they say, is history. Marsh crafts MAN ON WIRE like a heist film, presenting rare and fascinating footage of the actual event alongside flawless reenactments and modern-day interviews with the participants. The result is an immersive, emotionally gratifying motion picture, made all the more stimulating by Michael Nyman's electrifying score

The ... Alex Gibney's taxi from the dark side is a perpetually shocking documentary about the Bush administration's use of torture when it comes to political prisoners, with special attention to those captured in Iraq and Afghanistan. The title of the film Gibney is derived from treatment as an Afghan taxi driver called Dilawar, who was wrongly identified as a terrorist, then killed during a torture session conducted by U.S. troops. Despite the title, the case of Dilawar is only a small part in Gibney puzzle, as the director uses unbearable and extensive details about the taxi driver to death as a starting point in their search for people who have allowed such incidents

Gut-wrenching and fully Uncensored pictures from Abu-Ghraib feature alongside interviews with military personnel (some of whom tortured Dilawar) as Gibney's search slowly heads into the upper Echelons of the military and, ultimately, into the Bush regime itself. TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE is a powerful, well-executed piece of filmmaking. Gibney's skills as a director come to the fore as he manages to pull some surprisingly candid Revelations from his subjects, while his choice of Newsreel clips featuring the likes of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are extremely well chosen. Perhaps the most eye-opening scenes come from a press trip to the U.S. facility at Guantanamo Bay, where Gibney and others are given a tour of the facilities, including the site gift shop, where Gallows humor is stretched to breaking point with the sale of souvenir t-shirts bearing the legend Behavior Modification Instructor. The film concludes with Gibney pulling the focus back to Dilawar once again, highlighting the futility of his death as a number of commentators show how torture is not, and never has been, an effective method for extracting information from people.

One need not be a fan of surf to find something interesting in SURFWISE, Doug Pray's documentary about the legendary inspiring and unconventional Paskowitz family. The first family in the surf became famous for its large size, to win countless trophies, and for its eccentric leader, Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz. Once an admired figure in the medical community, while Dorian decided at the height of its success to leave everything behind, heading for a life on the beach. While traveling the world in search of the next big wave, Dorian met and married Juliette, which soon began delivery of their nine children. Born in quick succession and never placed in the school, the boys were raised in the ocean and on each truck moving

Although it seemed unconventional to the outsider, his routine was very unusual in fact controlled by Dorian, who wanted to raise his family in the form of live animals, free of the material world. The film takes on a turbulent journey through the family's complex history, first focusing on its patriarch and then moving slowly through the years with the commentary of the family-seven children now. Careful not to judge, just SURFWISE presents the history lived by those on the inside. Even at age 85, Dorian appears before the camera open and secure than ever for the extreme form that has raised her children was a gift for them. Scenes of the complaint by the adult children are counterbalanced by the hope of a reunion in the final. Although Ore does not break any new ground here movie, you choose a theme schemer who, in turn, leads viewers to leave the cinema looking at family dynamics, tradition, and personal sacrifice in a new way

New York NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL IN 2007 (Limited) on the heels of Cristi Puiu's brilliant in the death of Mr. Lazarescu is another excellent picture, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which firmly establishes Romania as a major force in the early 21st century the world of cinema. Winner of the Golden Palm at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, Cristian Mungiu's excruciatingly intense drama takes place in Bucharest in the mid-1980s, as Nicolae Ceaucescu and his evil dictatorship continue to reign. In a country where abortion is illegal, a young college student, Gabita (Laura Vasiliu), is in big trouble. Sure what to do, it becomes your room, Otilia (Anamaria Marinca), for help. On the day that the film takes place, the pair is connected with a black market doctor, Bebe (Vlad Ivanov), in order to take care of Gabita of pregnancy - but, of course, is not so simple.

The result shows 24 hours a terrible fall in a world where the possibility of tragedy lurks around every corner. Mungiu's decision to shoot each scene in a hyper-documentary style, over time, unbroken takes (by co-producer Oleg Mutu), ratchets up the tension to almost unbearable proportions. Adding further drama is his decision to focus on the friend, not the victim. Marinca's face, filmed in close-ups company, expresses the impossibly complex flood of emotions that nag him throughout the day. The film revelation of the truth, however, is Ivanov, whose image of the shadow is a doctor of absolute tour-de-force. 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS film is at its most masterful

Is it surprising that so many of our athletes take drugs to improve? Director Christopher Bell explores America's win-at-all-cost philosophy by examining the way his two brothers became members of the steroid subculture in an effort to realize their American dream. Ingeniously from the film by harkening back to the mentality of the 1980s, where the heroes were Rambo, Conan, and Hulk Hogan, Bell recounts how these models led him and his brothers in powerlifting and dreams of become all-star wrestlers.

Those dreams were soon shattered by the realization that success in those fields required the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Bell uses his personal story as an entree into analyzing the bigger issues that surround these drugs: ethics in sports; the health ramifications, both physical and psychological; as well as the mentality that fuels it all. Bigger, Stronger, Faster* combines crisp editing of hilarious archival footage with priceless family revelations, as well as interviews with congressmen, professional athletes, medical experts, and everyday gym rats. The power of the film is the way Bell stays away from preconceptions and stereotypes and digs deeper to find the truth and concoct a fascinating, humorous, and poignant profile of one of the side effects of being American. --© Sundance Film Festival

In a shift away from its usual exploration of the dark and sad, director Mike Leigh (VERA DRAKE) has a slight look at life with HAPPY-GO-LUCKY

The film chronicles the daily comings and goings of 30-year-old Poppy, whose positive outlook that is easy for the title. Poppy is a primary school teacher, who lives in London with her best friend Zoe (Alexis Zegerman). We remain on poppy through their daily routines - going clubbing with friends, preparing for class exercises, go to the chiropractor and taking lessons in flamenco

Nothing happens really remarkable to poppy, and yet their limits and make good cheer child delighting their efforts smallest incredibly attractive. The smile of poppy is put to the ultimate test after she decides to take driving lessons, and is assigned to Scott (Eddie Marsan). Scott is a paranoid, full of anger instructor who verbally abuses throughout his experience.

Poppy continues to see him, week after week, despite his escalating tantrums. Meanwhile, at work, a young student has been active in class, and should call Poppy in a very handsome social worker for assistance. She and the social worker finally go on a date that ends up becoming a catalyst for driving instructor of the weather crisis and confrontation with poppy. The film is a fascinating study of character, and Hawkins is excellent as Poppy, striking just the right chord of cheerful without coming off as shrill or disagreeable

It also offers a refreshing and optimistic and realistic in the life of the 30-something urban women. Poppy lives his life to the fullest - in the real world - without any kind of cliche Sex and the City hangups. HAPPY-GO-LUCKY is a whip-smart and full of surprises - just when you're sure the story will change in a certain direction, Leigh gently nudges it down a different path. And you will be glad of that.

To say that Christopher Nolan on The Dark KNIGHT is the best comic book adaptation of the film a bit skinny. It may be a Batman movie, but this is not a kid-friendly action movie full of bams prisoners of war and the original series

It is a pitch-black thriller with enough drama and tragedy, even in favor of William Shakespeare, but certainly keep both comic fans and uninitiated audience equally happy. THE DARK KNIGHT begins in the wake of Batman Begins: with the appearance of Batman (Christian Bale), Gotham City's underworld is unnerved. They are also plagued by the new DA, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) who, in their quest for justice, it remains above the city of corruption. Enter a new villain, the Joker (Heath Ledger), who wants to join the criminals for a common purpose: to kill Batman.

DARK KNIGHT SE is one of the most hyped movies to date, and a lesser film would be crushed under the weight of all that expectation. Some of the publicity stems from the early death of Ledger, who becomes an excellent performance. He provides moments of humor, but this is terrifying Joker, sharing more with classic villains like Hannibal Lechter, who with his comic book predecessors. Eckhart is just as good as Dent and Maggie Gyllenhaal deserves praise for taking on the role of Rachel Dawes to Katie Holmes. Although there is more emphasis on plot and character development than in most comic book adaptations, that does not mean Nolan has skimped on any of the action sequences.

Each set piece is done perfectly, leaving the audience breathless. THE DARK KNIGHT is filmmaking at its best; its subject matter may be dark and depressing, but it's tough not to feel exhilarated by its artistry when the credits begin to roll

A filmmaker who returns to Sundance in a new guise is a familiar enough event, but to return with gifts as unique as Chris Smith has performed with the union is rare in any year. In the same sense that his latest documentary, Smith's creative vision is focused on the gap between rich and poor, sharing their ideas, comments, pathos, and truth in a deceptively simple description.

The pool is the story of Venkatesh, a "room boy" working in a hotel in Panjim, Goa, who sees from his perch in a mango tree in a lush garden and pool brilliant hidden behind a wall. By making every effort it can to better himself, Venkatesh offers its services to the wealthy owners of the house. Not content with simply dreaming of a different life, Venkatesh is curious about the origin of the inhabitants of the planet, in fact, about the world around him and his curiosity changes the shape of their future.

Remarkably convincing and affecting, this is distinctive storytelling inspired by their ability to pass a comprehensive point of view in just a short sentence or conversation. Working in Hindi with young actors and in a country obviously not his own, however, Smith has created an excellent incisive portrait, which will take place on a world stage. - © Official Site

While counterfeiters are based on real-life tragedy, which never loses its main purpose as a work of dramatic entertainment. A trip to Afghanistan to sell weapons quickly falls into chaos, and Stark is at the mercy of a warlord who wants him to build a missile. Instead, Stark creates a powerful suit of armor, turning him into Iron Man and that allows them to escape. When he returned to America, his assistant pepper pots (Gwyneth Paltrow), a friend Rhodey (Terrence Howard), and right-hand man Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) in all the wonderful change in the man who knew.

Iron Man is the first film that is self-financed by Marvel Studios, and should be proud of his first effort. Take no obvious choice of routes with the cast or crew, and worthwhile. Director Jon Favreau, who also has a small role in the film, is best known for directing ELF, but his first action promoted by the effort is nearly flawless.

Casting Downey food, but was inspired: This is his first major action as well as the image, but the ingenuity that is displayed in films like the cult hit KISS KISS, BANG BANG works perfectly for the character of Stark. Iron Man features nods to its beloved source material, as well as the classic animated series from the 1960s. But even for the uninitiated, this film offers an interesting entry into the superhero of the Marvel universe. To keep the public after the credits have rolled seeing will be rewarded with a bonus scene.

David Lean's masterpiece, perhaps the greatest epic of the screen, stars Peter O'Toole in one of the most electrifying debut in the history of cinema. The film is less an adventure than a common experience that leaves an overwhelming sense memory of the struggle between two powerful forces: the Arabian deserts, immense, intractable, ever-changing, punish and TE Lawrence, humble as a monk, as a flamboyant rock star, protein, polymathic, heroic, enigmatic, crazy. While working on the staff of British intelligence in Cairo in 1916, Lawrence of fluency in Arabic earns him a seat on a mission to establish contact with Prince Feisal (Alec Guinness), leader of the Arab revolt and ally of the British Against the German - sponsored Turks in the First World War. Lawrence impressed by the knowledge of their culture, the prince allows young people to join his staff officer, and Lawrence quickly earns the Arabs' respect after he executes acts of extraordinary heroism

As the English genius for guerrilla warfare becomes evident, that assumes the role of de facto leader of the Arab revolt, uniting the hitherto warring tribes into a devastating weapon effectively. But the chaos of war also triggers the repression of the powerful official of the need for self-humiliation and mortification of the flesh. A visionary work that deploys an indelible image after another, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA fuses the conflict of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself into a sublime poem of force. The Incredibles (2004)

The combination of a family-oriented superhero adventure with the brilliant animation from Disney Pixar (creators of MONSTERS INC and the search for NEMO), The Incredibles graphics in the new territory of the Latin technical computer-generated cartoons . Using complex angles and a filmic sensibility, the animation feels like live action, intelligent and techniques, such as cuts to the "film grain stock" give this movie instant sophistication. Writer-director Brad Bird, with his creative storytelling and pace of development of characters, does the rest.

This story takes place in a slightly futuristic society where superheroes are no longer appreciated (Read: But I did not want to be saved!) And are forced to take a very low profile. Therefore, for Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), his wife Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and her three young sons superhero, maintaining a lifestyle of mediocrity in order to appear normal causes constant friction . When the opportunity suddenly arises for the Incredibles to use their powers to fight evil, that the trial by fire to learn to work as a superteam. Together we must stop the maniacal Syndrome (Jason Lee) from unleashing a robot murderer in a big city. Fast action and violence involving large explosions make this a film that is better suited for older children instead of the very small. However, family themes and comic episodes prevail, with eclectic characters like Edna the fashion designer (voiced by Bird himself) and the iceman Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) adding more moments of fun.

Released in the same year as Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry (1971), William Friedkin The French Connection marked the beginning of a new era of gritty, urban police dramas. Here, the issue of hard-CP amorality serves a conservative demand for a police state for internal repression in the chaos and youth culture subversive of the Vietnam War period. The film is based on the true story of two New York City police detectives in the investigation and a French heroin smuggling operation. The French Connection is perhaps best known for his infamous, masterfully filmed chase scene (influenced by Peter Yates' Bullitt), in which the chief police officer, Popeye Doyle (Gene Hackman), recklessly driving a stolen car through traffic in search of escape from a sniper by elevated train. The emotion of this crime drama is accentuated by director William Friedkin at the initial stage European influences, perhaps best represented by the handheld documentary style and image Friedkin claims that the Oscar-winning script are frequently disregarded in favor of improvisation. Set in 16th century Japan, Akira Kurosawa epic Seven Samurai follows the plight of a defenseless farming village living in constant fear of marauding bandits. Farmers know that when their crops are harvested, the thugs will attack, so four men go to the city hoping to use to fight for them samurai. However, the poor villagers can only offer payment in the form of housing and a daily bowl of rice, and initially only Kambei (Takashi Shimura), an old man brave samurai, and his eager young apprentice, Katsushiro (Isao Kimura), take possession of their cause

The meeting with various nomadic warriors on the streets, slowly putting together his team of swordsmen, recruiting Shichiroji (Daisuke Kato), Gorobei (Yoshio Inaba), Heihachi (Minoru Chiaki), and kyuzo (Seiji Miyaguchi). Finally the warriors launch a preemptive strike against the bandits, and begin an intensive series of conflicts that culminates in a rain soaked final battle - without a doubt, one of the most breathtaking sequences in film history. Widely regarded as the most Japanese films ever made, the Kurosawa Seven Samurai is also merit of pioneer of the modern action film. This concept is especially evident at scenes thrilling as Kambei of rescuing an abducted child, kyuzo of mourning, and the intensity of Kikuchiyo theft of a firearm enemy.

Although the film clocks in at over three hours, the story remains constant involvement and slowly increasing the tension at the same time of action, drama, comic relief, development and character. Amuck running happily, Mifune gives one of his most famous performances, often imbuing the comedian Kikuchiyo with a surprising streak of melancholy and introspection. However, is that anchors the whole film Shimura as the thoughtful and courageous Kambei, who stoically assumes the leadership of a task almost impossible. A monumental achievement in film, Kurosawa's film Seven Samurai is perfectly in almost all respects, that production of its well-deserved status as one of the best movies ever created

Carol Reed reached the peak of his form with this classic noir, an elegy of American innocence and European elegance. Joseph Cotten, in fine form, stars as unemployed pulp-novelist Holly Martins.
